The One Thousand Guineas is known for being one of the most exciting three-year-old fillies’ races in the country and always attracts a high quality field. Because of its set-weight conditions, superior horses are likely to win the Thousand Guineas. The race was first run back in 1946 when it was won by Sweet Chime and has had Group 1 status since 1979. The Thousand Guineas used to share a day with the Caulfield Cup, but was moved to its own day in 1988. The Thousand Guineas is the female equivalent of the Caulfield Guineas for colts and gelding held four days beforehand.
